FOR THE EXHIBITION SURPLUS. Tlio president of the Xcw Zealand Aca. demy of Fiuo Arts in Wellington (Mr. IL S. Wardell), who had charge, of the art section of tho Coronation Exhibition, referred in ii letter to the. Industrial Ass«v ciat'ion, last evening, to tin) important parti as an attraction, that the art section had played in tho success of the Exhibition. In view of the probability of there being a substantial surplus, ho" put forward (he claim- of tho academy art gallery in Wellington for ii portion, of it, This gallery, lie said, was open free to the public, and was yisilod by thousands each year. It wns in need of financial help, and lie felt sure that the public would applaud some portion of tlio fuiuta h'oini; to assist the society's oiTovis to provide a local collection of works of art. A member of tho association, when the letter was read, remarked that this was the fourth application received so far for a share of the surplus. The secretary:."! think there are more ■ thtui that.
