SHEARERS' CONFERENCE.

1 REGISTRATION NOT TO BE CANCELLED. Tho third annual conference of tho Shearers' Union has been in progress during the week. Mr. A.-J. King is president of the union, and Mr. Laraey eencral secretary. The delegates are:—Canterbury: Messrs. J. Purvis, C. Johnston, and E. Boon; Otago: Messrs. W. Jolinstone, and A. Stewart; Wellington: M«ssrs Nicholson, Cooper, and M'Leod; Marlborongli: Mr. Townseml; Gisborne, Mr Morgan. Much of the important business has yet to bo decided. The conference however, hopes to complete the agenda paper \this afternoon. ■ Tho question of assisting the weeklv Labour newspaper, "The Maoriland Worker,' is still under consideration Delegates from the New Zealand Federation or Labour woro welcomed to tho conference yesterday, and the position in regard to the amalgamation of the Shearers and tho Miners' Union was discussed. , Important remits dealt with vesterdiiv v:ero:-Thc riuestioh of the cancellation of the registration of the unions under the Arbitration Act, ami the rate of future pay that shearers should work for. The proposal to cancel the registration was negatived with only diio dissentient vote. The action to be taken in regard to tho rates of pay was liald over, pendin" legal advice on tho matter. The union already has a shearers' award. A deputation from the conference, consisting of Messrs. King, M'T.eod, and 'iWiisewl, waited upon the Minister for Labour yesterday, and put the desire of ■the shearers in the matter of accommodation beforo him. The Minister suggested that the deputation should obtain a copy of tho Queensland Act and sec if it would be suitable to apply to New Zealand, with certain alterations. This course was decided linon, and a sub-cominittco whs appointed to" go into the matter.
