His Excellency the Governor arrived from the south yesterday morning. He will visit Christchurch next week in connection with the Grand National Steeplechase meeting.
Mr. Thos. G. Macarthy, who lias been suffering from pneumonia, expects to bo up and about again early next week.
Tho death is recorded of Mr. George Moxted, on-s of the fast disappearing band of pioneers who arrived in the licet of .vessels chartered by the New Zealand Land Company to bring settlors to Wei-, lington. .Mr. Mexte:! arrived with his patents in the ship Lord William Benlinck, which arrived in Wellington on May 4, 1811. The family settled on tho old l'orinia Eond, near Kh.iudallah, and have been associated with the district ever since. Tho deceased married at nhiotc=n years of ase, and settled down to farm :it Tawa i'lat, where ho lived for lifty-sevon years. The deceased left three daughters (Mrs. S. Grcer, of Palmerston North), Mrs. T. Tremehri'iv, of t'awa Flat, and Airs. C. Wackrow (of Johnsonvillc), and two sons. The funeral was largely attended.
Mr. W. E.
