Tho annual report of the Railway Commissioner shows that gross earnings for the year were £7,407,836, an increase of 10.U per cent, over the previous year. The income represents JM 13s. Od. per cent, on the capital invested, and the tram earnings M 10s. Bd. per cent., an increase of Is. lid. and 2d. per cent, respectively. The surplus of revenue over expenditure on the railways and tramways was .£601,G25, an increase of J!33,455. The trams carried over 230,000 passengers without a fatal accident. The Commissioner adds that the limit of capacity on the tramways has been nearly reached, and that a new and comprehensive scheme is urgently needed.
