Pioneer Club Evening. An enjoyable musical evening, arranged by Miss Beatrice Richmond, was spent at the Pioneer Club rooms on Saturday. An interesting contribution was the ioy Symphony (Hayden), given by eleven performers, afterwards followed by another one (Romberg). Songs were sung from "Alico in Wonderland," Mrs. Levi (Dunedin) plavcd a nianoforte solo, and Miss Gladys "Watkins also sung. Supper brought a very pleasant evening to a close. Afternoon at the Y.M.C.A, A pleasant afternoon was spent at the Y.M.C.A. at the end of last week, when Mrs. Cleland entertained a large number of ladies. The immediate object was to secure articles for the furnishing of an "Apron Stall" at the coming Coronation Bazaar, to bo held in September. Tho handsome reception room was charmingl.v decorated, and tho fire shining on tho red furnishings gave a very cosy appcarancc. Mrs. Cleland received her guests, and after the tea and a most interesting musical and elocutionary programme, an opportunity was taken of inspecting numerous gifts that were brought. The Poster Ball, In connection with tlie forthcoming ball, prizes have Deen donated by the following.—For tho best carriod-out lady's poster costume, Ifersrs. Kirkcaldie; most original lady's fancy-dress costume, Mrs. Coull; most original gentleman's poster costume, Miss M'Lellan; prettiest calico costume, Dr. Platts-Mills; for the prettiest fancy dress of any material and any design, Mrs. T. G. M'Carthy. Featherston Skating Carnival. ; There was a large attendance at the fancy dress skating carnival held iu the Town Hall on Friday night. Tho results of the principal competitions were:—Best • couple skaters: Mr. T. M'Master and Miss I. Gallaher; best lady skater: Miss I. Gallaher; best gentleman skater: Mr. T. M'Master; best local couple skaters: Mr. G. Fenwick, jun., and Miss I. Benton; men's race: Mr. M. Berrill; original dress (lady): Mrs. Wickens; gentleman: Mr. A. lthodes; prettiest dress: Miss Alzdorf; obstacle race: Mr. E. Kent-John-ston. Mr. and Mrs. H. D. Bates and' the Misses Bates (2) returned to Wanganui last week after a sis months' visit to the l EaSt.'The death took place at Feilding on Friday of Mts. P. C. Fraser, the wife of the Superintendent of the Home Mission work of tho Presbyterian Church of New Zealand. A meeting of those interested in furthering the career o£ Miss Thelma Petersen is to he held in the Chamber of Commerce this evening.' Miss Henshilwood has been appointed cooking instructress to the Wellington Gas Company. Very successful demonstrations of papor-bag cookery in the "Soyer" bays were given by her-at tho Exhibition on Saturday afternoon and evening. ________
