It will be remembered that the Hauroto crashed into the Glasgow Wharf at Nupier on Friday whilst inward bound from Wellington, cutting through the 10ft. timber bay and 4ft. of tlio concrete wharf beyond it. Some idea of the forco of tho impact (says the "Haw.ke's Hay Herald") may be gained by the fact that tho noise was heard in tho vicinity of the Iron Pot, at l'ort Ahuriri, about two and a half or three miles away. Besides several hardwood beams, a concrete beam measuring about 2ft. by 3ft. was cut through. The rent in the wharf is approximately lift, long, wedge, shaped, and of about an equal width at the entrance. The timber bay is thrown completely out of alignment on tho left hand side. 'The damage to the wharf is considerable, but cannot bo accurately estimated until an inspection has been made. Tho steamer also sustained considerable damage to the bow. Some few feet above tlio water-line the stem is denied and (lie steel plates are open for a distance of about 7ft. from the front. The damage to the vessel is probably quite as severe as that caused to tho wharf. When tho vessel struck, those on board naturally felt a very severo shock, but the vessel was backed and brought alongsido her preper berth without difficulty.
