TYPHOON IN THE FAR EAST. By Teleirarn—Press Association—Copyright Tokio, July 27. The Canadian-Pacific Railway Company's steamer Empress of China, 5917 tons gross, which left Vancouver oa July 12, is stranded on a rock at the eouthern point of the Awa Peninsula, while inward bound for Yokohama.

The accident occurred near the wreck of the Great Northern steamer Dakota.

Vice-Admiral Saito sent the cruisers Aso and Soya to assist. They took off the maiU and baggage, and a hundred and eighty-five passengers.

If tho steamer is saved she will take threo months to repair.

The Peninsular and Oriental liner Palermo, 7597 tons gross, also went ashore in the typhoon. She is reported to be undamaged. '
