The l''inanco and Property Commitlee rceonunended that the City Soliritor he authoriseil to proceed for an injunclion asainit the owner of .sections at Daniel S-'trcet in connection with an overiloiv of storm water; thai the liuestion of setting back certain premises at Willis .Street, owned by Mr. Coverdale, be referred to tho Coniiiensalion Court: that Ihe f(uestion of whether the Uhiro liomo is e\empl from paying rates be referred to Iho court for settlement; (hat hnlf the rales due on a properly at College Street owned l)v an old-age pensioner he remitted; and that the pictures presented by Mr. John Baillie, of tho Haillio Gallery, London, through tho chief librarian, be accepted with thanks.—The report was adopted. The Abattoir, Milk Supply, and Public Health Committee recommended: That, as recommended by the City Engineer, the council should invite applications for the position of additional sanitary inspector, qualifications and salary to be the same as tho sanitary inspectors at present in the service; and that the council should authorise an extension of the tripe-cleaning shed at tho abattoir, as recommended by the City Engineer. The recommendations wero adopted. The By-Laws Committed recommended: "That exemption be applied for in re the narrow portion of Adams Terrace from the provisions of The Public Works Act, IMS, subject to the condition that the building line is set back '20ft. from the centre line of the street, as recommended by tho City Engineer."—This recommendation was referred back to the committee. The committee also reported that theyh'ad given consideration to the request of tho deputation representing the carrying firms of the city (the loads for drays should he. retained at 2 tons instead of 35cwt.), and they recommended that their request, be acceded to, but, in all cases where horses were employed and were not capable of drawing their load, the owners should be prosecuted. The committee set np to consider the report on the committee work of tho council recommended that three committees be set up, to be called the Finance Committee, Tramways Committee, and Health Committee. It was decided to adhere to the old order under which there are nine committees.
