TO INDICATE THE PRESENCE OF THE KING. On State occasions and Royal birthdays it was not an uncommon' sight to see the Royal Standard fluttering from the flagpolo over Government House, and it was noticcd by with some surprise that tllo Union Jack only was flown from Government House on Coronation Day. The explanation comes in the form of a dispatch which has been received by his Excellency the Governor from tho Secretary of State for the Colonies, which reads as follows:— Downing Street, May 11, 1911. My Lord,—l have tho honour to request. you to inform your Ministers that his Majesty the King has 'decided that the Royal Standard, which is tho personal flag of the Sovereign, is not in filturo to he flown except when and .where his Majesty is personally pre- ' sent.
