o— • LOCOMOTIVE DERAILED. TEAM PROPOSAL TAKING SHAPE. (From Oar Special Correspondent.! Palmerston, July 26. Traffic at the Palmerston Eaihviy Station was delayed a pood deal yesterday by a big engine becoming derailed through a rail .twisting. . It took n considerable time to get the engine back on to the track. The Public Works Committee of the Borough Council held a special meeting last night to consider the question of the installation of trams, and, utter a considerable amount of discussion, a resolution was passed to place before the ratepayers a proposal to instal a svstem at a cost of .615,1)1)0. The Edison* storage battery system was most favoured. The question has been before the council oft' and on for over two years now. A "song title" dance was held at the Terrace Bowling Club's pavilion last night, and was a great success. The guessing competition for ladies was won by Miss L. Harris. Among the men, Mr. C. Kuhti! was first. A meeting of the ladies' committee of the Manawatu Horticultural Society was held last night, but there was only a small attendance. • It is proposed to" enlarge the committee to twenty-four members. The Borough Council is to consider a proposal to obtain a shipment of crude oil from America for the purpose of oiling the streets. "When the Minister for Eaihvavs pavs his promif/u! visit to Palmerston, the Chamber of CV.mmerce will aeain bring under his notice the desirnlileuvs of lighting the Terracei. End Eailway. Station. A team of Palmerston golfers will visit Napier next Saturday.
