JUDGE AND CRITIC.

SLASHING REPLY FROM THE BENCH. UyTelccraph—Press AssoriaUon-CopyliEhl (Rec. July 21, 10.20 p.m.) Sydney, July 21. In the Commonwealth Arbitration Court to-day, Jlr. Justico Higgins made a slashing reply to the recent criticisms of his actions, made by Mr. Waddell in the New South Wales Assembly. Mr. Justice Higgins declared that amongst other Ihings Jtr. Waddell had said he was not a just judge, and (hero was no man who had ever disgraced his position more. His Honour characterised this as merely wild and whirling words, or evidence of reckless and irresponsible ill-temper. Another charge, that he had taken a hand in the Labour party fight in connection with tho Federal referenda, Jtr. Higgins declared to be utterly and absolutely false.
