ONSLOW BOROUGH COUNCIL.
The monthly meeting of the On>low Borough Council was held- last night. Tho Mayor (Mr. Frank lloldsworth) presided, and there, were .also present: Councillors 1). Lvniieberg, .1. C. Gardner, W. I). Bowden, Fred!;. Dates, E. S." Stafford, Ci. W. Darvall, C. Ap'.in, jun., 11. W. Dingwall, and C. M'Arthur. . On the motion of Councillor Dingwall, it. was decided that the recommendation of the Lighting Committee—that the Gas Company be. requited not to erect, gas manufacturing works in the borough—to adopted. A motion by Councillor Stafford was also carried to the effect that tho managing director be advised that councillors were unanimous 'on the point. The striking of rates for the current year was confirmed. ' In connection with the termination of the peried for the construction of the Cashmere Estate, Lower TCond, and the cable tram, the Town Clerk reported that the road was to have been formed by August 28, 1011. The date originally agreed upon was August. 28, 1000. The cable tram was fa have been begun within twelve months of January 1, 1010. and was to be completed by the end of the year 1011. ' On the motion of Councillor Lynneberg it was decided to approach the Cash- ! mere Estate, and call upon them to form - the road.. Councillor Stafford moved that the Lighting Committee be recommended _ to 1 look into the question of the termination ■ of the eiectrie light contract, and report • to the council. This was carried. : Towards the close of the meeting the. ' gas question was again reopened, and nf- • tor considerable debate, the following rcs solution, moved by Councillor Dates and seconded by Councillor Stafford, was car--1 ri'ed: "That the (las Company be advised that, this council accepts the terms of the draft agreement, subject' to the alterations, agreed on hflweou the council and '- 'the company, and subject to no exclusive - right-:, after 21 years, being conferred ' on the company and no gasworks to bo - elected in the borough, and subject also to tho' council's solicitors approving of the contracl." f ' '— '
