SKATING ON THE LAKELETS,
Ashburtori, July IS. The frosts continue unabated, the measurement. this morning bein™ 191 degrees— a record for this century. With the thermometer down to 12.5 degrees Fahrenheit, the atmosphere is exceedingly keen, but skating enthusiasts are making the most of the occasion. The ice on the Domain lakelets is better than it lias been for eight years, and a largo number, including a contingent from Christehurch, took advantage of it last night and this morning. TOTAL SUM FOR IRELAND. h'awera, July 18. Messrs. Donovan and Redmond, the Irish envoys, addressed a meeting at Manaia last evening. A resolution expressing sympathy with Home Rule was passed, and about .£IOO was contributed in the Manaia district. It is expected that the total for the Dominion will be well, over .£IO,OOO.
