(From Our Special Correspondent.) « :— TRAMS AND SYNDICATE. A special meeting of the Hu!ft Valley lraraway Board was held at Poiono last night, and was attended by Messrs J W. M'Ewau (chairman), R. Stevens, j" i' ll, . e . r ' n- > T - H /} wthoi ' n ' T. Burridge, and h. P. Jhclnvorih.
. The meeting was for the purpose of discussing certain modifications contained in a letter forwarded by Mr. Petherick (solicitor), representing the syndicate, who have been negotiating with the board, with the object of securing an option over tramway construction in tile valley. At the outset tho chairman asked tl'io board whether they desired to go into committee on the subject, but the majority elected that the press representatives should remain.
In respect to No. 4 clause, the syndicate asked that, if the board is to havo a purchase right within U years, some provision should be made for a profit to tho owners.
■ The chairman did not feel disposed to coucedo 'anything, other than what was set out by the board in its original letter Mr. Richworth did not think that any modification was necessary. It. was agreed to adhere to the former decision.
The modification of Paragraph B of Clause 5 j 3 5,0 a3 ( 0 a ]l o , v th e com p anJ . (within 12 months after obtaining delegation) to complete the whale of the track within 5 years. It was then considered, and resolved that the time must bo six months after delegation. As to Clause (g)—that t.he board should bear the cost of tho Amendment Bill put through Parliament—Mr. M'Ewan announced that a gentleman had offered to draft a Bill gratis. The time for furnishing details in Clause G was extended till September 7. On the motion of Mr. Richworth, it. was decided that the syndicate be requested to lodge -XintlO with the board's bankers, as an indication of good faith and guarantee.
.Mr. Piper moved that a. privilege he allowed the Hutt and Pctone Councils, in the event of either laying a sewer, viz., that they should have power to call upon the syndicate to make certain alterations, with the cars and routes—Carried.
A leter was received from the Town Clerk, Wellington, asking that a delegate be sent to a conforem-o to consider the proposed tramway regulations..
Mr. M'Ewan was appointed to represent the board.
