PALMERSTON DAY BY DAY.
■(From Our Ssecial Correspondent.) : . Palmerston, July 17. The Palmerston Savage Club held.. its first ordinary korero of this season at the .orderly, room of the local Mounted Rifles on Saturday night, when there was a good attendance. Toa W. F. Durward presided. Ho intimated that an invitation had been received from tho Masterton Savage ■Club to 'pay a visit to that town at an early date, the Maitcrton Savages promising to return the call.. An invitation had also been received from the Eastbourne Savage Club (Wellington). Among the visitors were several members of the English- Pierrots, who rendered a number of musical items. Mr. Ciuiino's orchestral band also gave several numbers. The Ball and 'Steeplechase Committees of the Manawatu Hunt Club met on Saturday evening, the president, Mr. S. Pi. Lancaster, presiding. Both functions promise to be successes. It was decided to start the first race of the steeplechase meeting, which takes place on the Awapuni course on July 26, at 12.45.
At a meeting of the council of the Jersey Cattle Breeders' Association seventeen risw members wers elected, and a number of prefixes were registered.
At the Police Court to-day, before Mr. A. D. Thomson, 5..M., Owen Priest was fined £i and costs for cruelty to a cow. Arthur Harold Bunn appeared on remand ohargpd with the theft of 10s., on May 10, end £i on May 11, the property of Messrs. Bell, Gully, and Cooper, solicitors. SubInftpector Norwood asked for a .further Tomand for a week to allow of investigation's being made. The remand, which was not opposed, was granted. Bail was sllnwrd in accused's own roengiiisance of £100, and two sureties of ,£IOO.
