CARTERTON. The Carterton Centre of the Wairarapa Boxing Association.hold a tournament on Thursday next. • . ■ , Mr. W. C. The local Borough Council has made a levy of a general rate of one penny in tho £ on all rateable property in the borough, and a rater rate of 5 per cent, on tho first .£3OO, and 4 per cent, on tho fourth .£IOO. On Monday the local branch of tho Wairarapa Egg Circle dispatched 113 dozen eggs to the Wellington market. Mr. 11. H. Armstrong, of Carterton, has been elected chairman of the committee of the Wairarapa Egg Circle, vico Mr. T. H. Kutherfurd. . FEILDING. Mr. D. 11. Gnthrie, M.P., delivered a politic-ill address in the liangiwahia Hall on Saturday night. Mr. O. 31'Intyrc, councillor for the riding in the Kiwi tea. County Council, presided over a good meeting. Mr. Guthrio's speech was on the same lines as that delivered in Feilding some little tiitte ago, and he also dealt with matters which had cropped up since. At the conclusion, several questions w«re nsked and satisfactorily answered. A team from tho Foilding. Golf Club visited Wanganui on Saturday, and played a friendly contest with the Maroro Club. The day was perfect and the links in beautiful x order. Seven games were played, tho home tsani winning five. The Kimholton Golf Club will send a team to Feildiug nest Saturday.
OTAKI. It is stated that Mr. C. A. W. Monckton and Mnjor Addiugton have purchased Mr. Watson's farm at To Horo, part of Mr. Small's, and a portion of Mr. Bayliss's, and will yo in extensively for dairying; Mr.' W. J;' How has also sold his Te Miinuno properly, Mr.. Gregory, of Olaki, being the purchaser. It is reported that the- syndicate which recently purchased the property of thr; lato Mr. .1. E. Gear at T-5 Horo, will put it on tho market in suitable sections ionic time next month. Mr. Bnv.ni, Miss Brown, and Master Brown, who were so successful at the Masterton competitions; intend to compete at Napier and Wellington.
