AGRICULTURAL WORKERS WANTED.
(Reo. July 18, 0.45 a.m.) . , London, July 17. The Farmers' and Settlors' Associations' Conference has resolved to urge the- Federal and State Governments to adopt an up-to-dato scheme to secure agricultural labourers as immigrants.
STRIKE AT LITHGOW.
Sydney, July 17. A stoppage has occurred at _ Lithgow Colliery owing to tho miners striking over the dismissal of one of their number. Unless there is a speedy settlement the ironmasters will have to close.
A HEROIC RESCUE.
London, July 16. At a fire in Liverpool a docker named O'Brien rushed into a blazing cellar and rescued two children. O'Brien was terribly burnt, and o'tcd from his injuries.
PRINCE LEOPOLD INJURED,
London, July 1C Prince Leopold of Battenborg's horse bolted aDd fell in the Territorial camp at Lulworth, in Dorsetshire. The Prince received several cuts on the head, but is progressing favourably.
VACCINATION AND SMALLPOX,
. _ London, July 16. An official report on the recent outbreak of smallpox in London states that there was one death among 46 vaccinated patients, and nino among 22 unvaccinated patients.

Sydney, July 17. Dr. Sarsfield Cassidy intends to carry on an exhaustive search for the missing inter-State steamer Yoiipala in his private yacht, considering that it is too early yet to give up hope.
LAND SETTLEMENT.
Sydney, July 17. The total area, taken up in Now South Wales in original and additional holdings during tho last six months amounts to 653,701 acres, as compared with 885.357 acres in the corresponding period of last year.

A deputation has protested to Mr. Hoiman. Acting-Stato Premier, against the abolition of tho Federal Government House at Sydney. Mr. Holman replied that it. was "a Commonwealth matter, but ho added that now that tho States were not receiving surpluses from the Federal services previously performed by the States, they fhould bo compensated.
