THE EXHIBITION.
HEPPLE BENEFIT. BOY SCOUTS' DISPLAY. The Exhibition attracted a 6teady tide of visitors all day yesterday, and in the evening presented a particularly animated scone, Interesting demonstrations were in progress at many stalls, and, as an additional feature, two wireless telegraphy stations had boon established at points widely separated within the buildings. "Tho singing spark" was to bo seen ami heard by all who cared to pay tho stations a visit. Messages were accepted lor transmission at a moderate ice, but tho sending operations wero not particularly successful. This was duo to tho music and other sounds that filled the buildings. It is proposed to give another demonstration shortly in a quiet part of tho J Store, and it is hoped that better results will then be attained. Tho wireless instruments were usually surrounded by knots of onlookers during tho ovening, and the manipulation of tho apparatus was followed with evident interest. Tho total number of people who entered tho Exhibition during the day was 15(55, making a total to date of 12:1,485. Cash takings for tho day amounted to X3l. Iho extent to which tho llepplo Fund will benefit is not vet known, as the returns of tickets sold havo not yet been i|i. ■Stadium cash takings totalled £'■' Is. Cd., and this amount, plus tho amount derived from the sale of spccial tickets, will go to tho lU'pnlo Fund. SCOUTS AT THE. STADIUM. 1 At the Stadium last evening city and suburban Boy Scout troops gave a capital display. District Commander M'l.eod was ill charge of the proceedings. Tho boys showed themselves adept in constructing s , 1 huts and bridges, and when they had embarked upon the evening s work kept tho spectators both interested aud amused. Items of a funnv kind were not forgotten. Tho Roseneatii and Newtown troops eamo out garbed as savages m war-paint, and conducted a. brisk skirmish to the necompaniment of ear-splitting yells. A Maori canoe and a Maori raft, each equipped with ft serviceable set of wheels, were navigated respectively by tho Roscneath and Island Hay troops, and the efforts of the rival ri5 cw ? ?* c " 01 ' considerable amusement, -ho Institute and Petone troops each gave' a really skilful demonstration of first-aid ,vork - Shelters of toi toi were constructed by tho Kilbirnie troop, a wigwam by I'lio Iscwtcwn troop, and sonic sorvjcoablo camp sleeping mats were woven bv the iuiandallah scouts. Tho erection of a' lookout tower by the Thermion troop, and of a Irestlo bridge by (hp IColburno troop were each smartly carried out. A light flyme bndso'of wire was constructed by ino Alt. \ icloria troop iu about; throo minutes. As a whole, the scouts showed themselves thoroughly canablo of providing a capital evening's entertainment, and many of the spectators must havo been surprised at the extent and range of the work. Judging from tho numbers present, tho Hepplc Fund should benefit to a considerable extent as a result of the efforts ot the scouts.
"LIVING BRIDGE." Final preparations liavo boon made for the "Living Bridge'' entertainment to be given m the Stadium this evening, and. tlio Commissioner has been requested to provide extra seating accommodation, in view ot the expectations of the promoters that a very laj'go number of spectators will attend. Apart from tho spectacular beauty of the entertainment, it will lie of additional interest to lovers of bridge from the i&ct that the game will be conducted by veil-known Wellington exponents— Messrs. A. K. Whyto and J. H, N. A. Burns will bo pitted agaust Br. Newman and Mr. Lan Duncan. WRESTLING. Louis Robertson, a well-known wrestler, arrived from Oiiura last night to tako part in tho welter-weight wrestling championship of .New Zealand to bo Held at tho Stadium 011 Wednesday next. Robertson exacts to put up his best perlormance. As an earnest .of his fitness ho is prepared to put up anything up to .£IOO against any middle-weight or light-weight wrestler in New Zealand.
Robertson gavo a brief physical culture demonstration at tho Exhibition last evening, which was attended by Mr. A. Marryatt and a few other sporting enthusiasts. The wrestler wears every appearance of being in tho pink of condition. Dressed, ho looks comparatively slight, but ho has a splendid muscular development and possesses a rcmarkablo control over individual muscles, and a power of concentrating energy in any part of his body. As an indication of his physical powers, tho wrestler allowed his trainer, Mr. Cameron, to stand on his wrist as his arm lay on Hie floor. Thus burdened, Robertson raised himself erect with little apparent effort. 11c should give his opponent any amount of work to do ill tho contest 011 Wednesday evening. PROFESSOR GODFREY'S ENTERTAINMENT. Tho entertainment provided in tho Coronation Theatre by Professor Godfrey, with his clover performing birds and animals, was again well patronised yesterday afternoon and evening His Excellency tho Governor lias arranged that a privato matineo performanco ghall bo given for his daughter.'
An attraction at the Exhibition, is tho beautiful exhibit of Ifr. P. W. Montbey, of Mount Albert. It consists of an exquisite variety of Australiasiau shells that have been worked into artistic designs by the exhibitor, consistinpr of photo frames, handkerchief boxes, and ornaments of many kinds.
