ißy TflUcsrlfcb.— Special Correspondent.! Masterton, July 14. Mr. Hugh Morrison, of Blair Logic, has been elected unopposed as president of tho Masterton A. aim P. Association for the onsuing year. .Messrs. It. J. Dagg and W. j; Welch havo been elected vice-presi-dents.
A demonstration in connection with tho Masterton Musical and Elocutionary Competitions' Society was held in the Town Hall to-night, items being rendered by nearly tile whole of tho prize-winners. Tho festival, which has thus bsen brought to a close, has been a magnificent success from all points of view. At a meeting of shooting men held last night it was decided to form a gun club in tho district, aiid to affiliate with the New Zealand Gun Club Association." Mr. A. P. Whatman was elected president. The tender of Messrs. Coradino and Whittuker has been accepted at JM9OO for the erection of the new brick business premises in the maiu thoroughfare of Masterton for tho Masterton Trust Lands Trustees. An action for alleged slander, arising from a sly grog question, has been set down for hearing at next sitting of tho Supreme Court here. Tho damages claimed are X2OO. Factory butter is now selling at Is. 4d. per lb. in Masterton. The recent hospital ball in Masterton will result ill a fund of fully .£3OO being available for tho purchase of instruments for the hospital. Tho Waingawa Freezing Works will close down at the end of the month to enable the plant to be overhauled for next season. A quantity of tinned meat is being shipped to Liverpool and Glasgow, whilo tongues are finding a ready market in New Zealand.
