A TRADES HALL PROTEST. j By Tel«sraph—Press Assoelation-OoDvriirhi Melbourne, July 13 A Trades Council deputation protested to the Acting-Stato Premier agaiust tno proposal to import artisan labour. Mr. Walt replied that he was going to import artisans, but not under contract. Ho was sick of this whining from tho Trades Hall, It was not a sound proposition that a scarcity of labour f-hould bo maintained in order that the workers should get higher wages. MORE EVIDENCE IN SYDNEY. Sydney, July 13. A boot manufacturer told the Labour Commission that he would give- a monetary guarantee to employ an extra hundred hands for the next five years. A WITNESS WITH NO COMPLAINT, (Roc. July 14, 1.5 a.m.) Sydney, July 13. The City Surveyor was tho first witness before the Labour Commission who did not complain of the shortage of labour. Ho stated that he had plenty of applicants for all vacancies.
