ADVERTISING OF BUTTER.
GLASGOW EXPERT'S STATEMENT. Mr. E. Davidson, of Glasgow, who is described as one of the world's experts in the butter trade, is.visiting Australia. In an interview, Mr. Davidson paid a compliment'to the very choicest qualities of Australian butter, which, in his opinion, were equal to tho best Danish. lie added: "1 have some very strong views on the question of advertising Australian .butter and cheese, ion ranmrc expect individual factories to undertake the work. I think the Governments of the States should take it in hand, .factories and producers would not grudge a voluntary or even a compulsory, levy on each box of butter, and oil each crate of cheese to inaugurate a fund for advertising. It could be dealt with by tho High Commissioner or' Agents-General for the States, and made a progressive advertising scheme. It would be then possible for a large number of competent lecturers to go through Great Britain with a kinemato- ' graph'or limelight views, and create an interest in colonial dairy farms. A. littie has been done in this direction, but only in a haphazard way. An enormous benefit would be reaped. There would be an increase of ss. or 6s. per cwt., which v.oiild more than repa.v for the contribution per box. Australian products aVe well known to retailers and dealer?, but what is wanted is I hat the ordinary consumer should knov- more about them, and should above all a.'k for them. - '
