CRICKET.

.—» THE TEAM FOR AUSTRALIA. Bi Telecraph—l'ress Associattem-CoDyrtehl London, July 10. Kinnear and Iremonger hive been asked to join the Marylebone team for Australia. Kinnear heads the averages with 56. Iremonger's average is 26. In the Gentlemen v. Players' match, the former team were nil out for .352, including Fry 63, Warner 50, and F. R. Foster 69. LORD HARRIS'S VIEWS. (Rec. July 11, 3.30 p.m.) Lorfdon, July 11. Lord Harris, speaking at a meeting in aid of the Cricketers' Fund, discussed Tarrant's eligibility to play in tho Test matches against Australia, and said, that, according to the arrangement arrived at between Australia, South Africa, and England, Tarrant would be able to play for England. The only objection was one of f-entiment based on a fragile foundation. Lord Harris said he hoped Fry would be able to make the Australian trip. If the Marylebone Club secured the men wanted., they would send out the finest team that had ever left the country. The fact that Tarranl, who plays as a professional for Middlesex, has been selected to play in one of (he English trial game* indicates that it is the intention of the Motherland to play him in future Test matches. So far Tarrant has not played in a Test match, though when in Australia on a holiday trip in 1907-8 he played for Victoria against New South Wales and the English team then in the Commonwealth, till a cablegram from England forbade him continuing. In view of the foregoing his selection in the trial games makes interesting reading. Tho rules governing Test matches are a< follow.—(1) Tes.t matches are those played between representative eleven.': of England and of Australia and of Sonfh Africa, also between elevens of Australia and South Africa. (:') A cricketer who has played in a Te.sl match for n country cannot play for any other country without the consult of tho contracting 'parties. O) A crickeler is always eligible to play for the country of his birth. (I) A cricketer, unless debarred by Ifule 2. may elect to play for any country in which' he is residing, and has resided for not less thnn four year!- immediately preceding, and thereafter shall always be elijible to clay for that country.
