ON THE TRACK AT TRENTHAM. The weather was beautifully fine and mud at ircnthain yesterday morning. The recent heavy rains had hardened up the sand track, and left it Very fast. J. H. Pressor was the first, to commence operations. Kina was dispatched on a slow round, and allowed to sprint home over the last three furlongs. The chestnut has been clipped recently, which operation has considerably detracted irom his appearance. He seemed to move freely enough, but no line could be obtained as to his fitness or otherwise. Kopek, the full-brother to Oiyoi, is • looking fresh and well, but much on the big side. His task was a similar one to that of Kina, Tβ Kahurangi =£ot cast in his box overnight, and, as he appeared to be stiff and sore, he was only given light exercise. St. Petersburg galloped half a mile, but moved disappointingly, the watch registering 55 seconds. Lovell (H. Telford) went, three rounds at a canter, and pulled up quite sound. Ribstone Pippin (E. Murtagh) and Salopian (L. Traill) went twice round over fences. In all they galloped about 2J I miles, and jumped nine fences. The hunter gavo a splendid display in the first round, but then tired badly, and banged tho remaining fences very hard. His companion jumped faultily over tho first three fences, but improved as he went on.
Torbelle (L. Traill) did a similar task by himself. He walked away lame.
J. Lowe was on the tracks with his team of two-year-olds, only two of which were, worked, however. The youngsters havo all been suffering from colds, and, in consequence, have not been able to do much work. The Obligado gelding, and the King's Guest filly, trotted a couple of rounds, but the Achilles filly was not worked, and was on the lead. ■ Effort (W. Ryan) went a couple of rounds and galloped homn from the halfmile in 53!scc. Lowe's mare moved well. The Trial Plate candidate, Lambton, appeared to be sore after a run down tho straight. The Dunedin pair, My Lawyer and Optimeforin, who arrived on Sunday, wera both given strong work. The pair .were ridden by J. Beale, who will be in tha saddle on Saturday. Bracken hit out strongly over a circuit, and then went slowly over the same distance. The' Epaulet gelding was. coughing after his work. . . '■-...■ ' Lady Fran was out exercising slowly, but she took charge of T. Pine, and went half a mile. Paritutu was given a couple of circuits at- a slow pace. The Grand National Hurdles' candidate, Whakaweira, was on the tracks at Trentham yesterday and looked well. Two other members of H. Hickey's team, Eiya and Centaur, also worked. A. Whittaker will, it is understood, have the mount on Bracken in the Parliamentary Handicap on Saturday. Since the Napier Park Racine Club's meeting, Sir Frisco has been doing good work at Levin, and the San Francisco horse apnears to be back in his best.form again.
