SUNDAY CONCERT.

Tho Garrison Band, under Lieutenant Herd, last ironing gavo a concert in the Town Hall iri'aid of the Hepple fund. The attendance was largo. One of the most enjoyable band contributions, and a most praiseworthy effort in every way, was the "La Traviata" selection. Lieut. Herd has a reputation for his careful analysis of a work prior to production, and that ho is a painstaking student is often evident (o those who follow his interpretations. It was a great pleasure to notice tho warmth and passion imparted to tho treatment of the Italian music last evening, and the freedom of expression. It was all the more enjoyable because of tho excellent response on the part of the bandsmen. The "Spanish Chant"—a well-known air— and variations was also a successful, though not so striking, production, the tone, however, being good; but in the "Hallelujah Chorus" thero was not. the same, confidence or general effect. "White Lilies" (J. Ord Hume) and the march. "Under Freedom's Banner" (Von BIou) were acceptable concluding items. Mrs. Clarkson sang "Oinbra ma Fui" (Handel), which though nicely rendered, was scarcely a happy selection. Mr. H. N. Fletcher again sang tho tenor song "I Hear You Calling Me," and on being encored gave a moro successful and wholly enjoyable number, "Angels Guard Thee," the singer's rich upper notes being cmploved with greater freedom and ofl'cct. Mr. C. Clarkcon sang Gowor's setting of "Crossing tho Bar," his interpretation of which is decidedly unique. Ho was far hnnpior in fho very pretty oncoro number,' Oh, Hush Mo to 'Tremulous Sleep" (Gerard). Mr. Hollow was the accompanist. Mr. Farmer played tastefully violin obbligato for Mrs. Mitchell and Mr. Fletcher. During tho evening the secretary of the Hepplc fund, Mr. Reade. returned thanks to the conductor of tho band and all who had assisted.
