FARMERS' UNION FUNCTION.
THE SPIRIT OF CO-OPERATION. . (By Telegraph.—Special Correspondent.) Christchurch, July 7. At tho annual - dinner and concert in connection with tho Greenpark and Tai Tapu branch of the Farmers' Union, the chairman explained that the object of tho gathering was to try to induce the farmers of the district to unite, and, by their co-operation, to strengthen ' the union. Many did not see eyo to eyo with the policy of tlie Farmers' Union, but, if any objected, he advised them to join, the union, and endeavour to put matters right. Every farmer present should bo prepared to net as a missionary, and work to secure an increased membership. Mr. I).' Jones said that there should be more of the spirit of unionism displayed— not as between farmers alone* but as between farmers and farm labourers. There was to-day a spirit of antagonism between tho farmer and the labourer which all should endeavour to combat. ' There was nq necessity for the labourer to always remain in the-ranks of the'labourers. It was open to liim to rise in tho ranks, and become also a farmer and employer.
