D BATTERY.

ANNUAL "AT HOME."

The annual "At Homo" of the D Battery (New Zealand Field Artillery) took the form this year of a dance at fat. Peter's Hall-iu previous years the occasion of the battery's anniversary was celebrated by a dinner. The anmversnry function was held last evening, there being a large attendance of members and ladv friends of the battery. Major Petherick, officer commanding the corps, presided, and among the visiting officors present were: Lieutena'nt-Colonel G. iN. Johnston (Director of Ordnance), Major F. J. Courtney, and Captains Menzics and Bevan (Wellington Garrison Artillery). Musical and other items lent variety to tho function. During an interval in the proceedings, the prizes awarded for merit in tho field artillery and rifle, competitions were presented to tho winners as follow::— Field artillery competition—Right gun section: Silver cup. B sub-section: Moorhouse Cup and St. Hill badges. D subsection drivers: Monboun Shield. Corp. Shilling, Bombr. .Stock, Bombr. Brown, Drivers Dolling, Ward, and Gapes wcro awarded the Roso badges for drivers Best specialist (not a non-commissioned officer), Gunner L. Gilbert (Sergl'.-Major Bock's trophy). Last year's best recruit: Gunner Jacobson (Major Petherick's prize). SHOOTING. Rhodes championship, belt and medal— Scrgt. Plimmer, 1; Lieut, fekelley, 2; Snrgt. F. Wickcns, 3. B class (Kutchen modal and gold links): Corp. A. Shilling, 1; Gunner Dinnie, 2; Gunner Fitzgerald, 3. Grand aggregate: Scrgt. Wickens, 1; Lieut. Skelley, 2; Bombr. Focke, 3. A class competition: Sergt. Plimmer, 1 and 2; Lieut. .Skelley, 3. B class competition: Gunner Dinnie, 1; Corp. Shilling, 2; Gunner .Fitzgerald, 3.
