SPEECH BY MR. TAYLOR, M.P.
ME. G, W. RUSSELL TAKES A HAND. (By Telegraph—Press Association.! Christchurch, July 6. Mr. Taylor, M.P., addressed a meeting at Richmond to-night 011 tho need of a 'Labour party in the New Zealand Parliament. He strongly urged tho formation of a Labour party, supported its programme, and said neither the Government nor the Opposition parties had a policy, and tho policy submitted by the Labour party was the only one before the country. At the conclusion, there ivas an animated discussion between Mr; Russell, M.P., in whose electorate the meeting was held, and Mr. Taylor. It was pointed out by Mr. Russell that Mr. Taylor had specifically stated that ho was not a member of the labour party and wouldn't sign its pledge. Mr. Taylor, in replying, said lie wouldn't bo bound by any party ties, and as .far as he was concerned every candidate was free to sisii or not as it pleased him, but he considered the ■ Labour party was perfectly justified in taking-.'tome precautions to ensure that- members elected to ■Parliament, through the efforts of members of the party, will support Hie platform of the party.
