ENROLLING ELECTORS.
NEXT SUNDAY'S DUTIES,

There is a difference in connection with the procedure to lie adopted in the city and suburban electorates of the four chief centre® of population or. tlie one hand and the country electorates on the oilier. In the city electorates a schedule will lie I placed in every household, to be filled lip by llio occupier or person in charge of the dwelling wi'li particulars respecting all persons of the age of 21 year.-, and upwards who slept or abode there on the night of Sunday, July !), together with tho;e travelling or out at work during that night (and not included in any other electoral schedule) who return to the dwelling on Monday, July 111. The schedule will be called for by an enrolment officer 011 July 10, or as scon alter us jiracticable. The electors are required to have their answers written in the proper columns and the duly signed. Any person wilfully re I using or neglecting to fill up, feign and deliver the schedule, or to answer the ucce^ary inquiries which the enrolment officers are authorised and required to make, is liable to a fine of .to.
In thickly populated parts of the country electorates a house-to-house visitation will be made by tlie enrolment officers, who will only require to make one visit. Each officer will carry a field book, 111 which ha will enter the name of each adult resident. He will also > carry a copy of the electoral roll to verify the existing registration and to sea that the cure lied electors are correctly descril)ed m name, occupation, and address. New enrolments will be effected on the spot by an enrolment officer wherever possible, and -forms of claim for enrolment, with free envelopes addresfod to the registrar for the district, will be left for unenrolled persons absent from the household at the time of the enrolment officer s visit, with instructions that the claims be completed and posted to the registrar without delay. It is not proposed to extend tlio house-to-house visitation to sparsely-settled and remote parts of the country electorates. Such localities will, however, be provided for by depositing a copy of the roll, together witli a supply, of enrolment forms, at tlie nearest post or telegraph office, where a notice will be exhibited drawing attention to the facilities giveu for c-nrolment. In alt such places postmasters will also assist (lie registrar of electors, and have all qualified persons enrolled. They will also purge from the roll the names of electors who have left the district since the last compilation.
