CIVIC AFFAIRS.
MEETING OF COUNCIL. The fortnightly meeting of tho City Council, held yesterday afternoon instead of in thn evening, was attended by Councillors I\ Smith (deputy-Mayor), G. Frost, J. Trevor, A. It-. Atkinson, G. Shirtcliife, J. Fuller, A. j.. llindmarsh, J. Godber, L. M'Kcnzic, W. Barber, .T. E. Fitzgerald, K. Fletcher, and Dr. Cameron. The Finance and Property Committee recommended:—That (ho draft agreement, as submitted by Messrs. Drandon, Ilislop. and Hrandon, for the purehaH' of land at Lyall Hay, bo- approved, such agreement including one road access to tho beach road when made, as agreed. That the area at the rear of buildings at Hunter Street, Customhouse Quay, and •Tcrvois Quay, known as the Hunter Street Reserve, be tar macadamised, at an estimated cost of .£l5O, as. recommended, by the city engineer, tho cost to be charged against the Hunter Street endowment.—Adopted. T!io council adjourned at 5.30 p.m. until Tuesday evening next.
