With reference to "the board's resolution authorising the Commissioner to issue a license to Mos&rs. Watkins Bio?, of a portion of Section DG, Manunui V.S., they have now applied for the whole fectioii, the area of which is 4 acres 2 roods 12 perches. It wa:i resolved to authorise the Commissioner to issue them a license over the whole section under Section 307 of the Land Act, 1908, on such conditions and at such rent as he may see fit to fix. With referenco to complaint from the town-clerk.- Lower Hutt Borough, that the rates of Mrs. E. V, Rpvan, lessee of Section Bt. Block VIIJ, TJelmont, and of Mrs. C. The Public Works Department submitted for approval a plan showing a road deviation in the Ohakuno V.S.—Consideration postponed, pending Commissioner's personal inspection. Expenditure of thirds in the Waimarino, Manawatu, and Wairarapa South Counties was approved Non-rcsictence and other Matters. Action with reference to the non-resi-dence of Mr. Joseph Sheridan on Sections 11 anil 12, Pokchekm-a V.S., 20 acres 3 roods 5 perches, was postponed pending further information. Mr. G. D. Bromnor wrote with reference to the uon-rosideuco of Mrs. M: Bremuer or himself on Section 5, Block VII, Kaitioke, 700 acres.—Action deferred for six months. Mr. M. Kennedy was given six months in which to take up hi;; residence on Section 22, Mataroa V.S., 3 roods 8 perches. Mr. V. L. Barnett, of Section 12, Block V, .Rangataua, 1 rood 20 perches, was given two month*. A report was received from the Crown lands ranger on Mr. T. M'Coll's nonresidence on Section 2, Block VIII, lietaruke, 1320 acres, in which he stated that it was doubtful whether there was a gocd building site on the section, and recommended that Mr. M'Coll might be granted exemption from residence at present so long as he lives on his brother's land adjoining.—Approved, but applicant to be informed that concession prejudicial to freehold title.

Mrs. A. M. Burney, lessee of Sections 1 and 2, Block XIX, Ohakune V.S., 2 acres, wroto statins that she had so' far been unable to obtain a purchaser for the same.—Consideration postponed. The Commissioner submitted a schedule of ranger's reports on Ohakune V.S., Pukeroa V.S., Pohonui V.S., Koro V.S., Wainuioru, Mnngawhero, Kaitieke, Mangamii. Rctaruke, Normamlalu Settlement, Miiuiurarnki Settlemcut, Hawirey Settlement, Carrington Settlement, and Epr.ni Hamlet. From these it appeared that while 1(17 selectors were complying with the, conditions of their leases, 23 were defaulters. It was resi)lv?d to consider the 107 as satisfactory, and ti take the usual action with regard to the defaulters.

The Town Clerk,. Ohakune. wrote with reference to the number of forfeitures which have recently taken place in t'hn Ohakune Village .Settlement, and pointed out a serious loss of rales the Town B n anl suffered in consequence. He asked whether, instead of forfeiture, transfers might, be ellected.—The reply was that in all case* where possible, transfers had boon approved. Jn other pases forfeitures wore necessary, and the lots would be reoffered in August next.

The definitions of improvements in the present lease to be adhered fo in the new lease, the lessee not being entitled to compensation for bushfclling and grassing (as the?s improvement's belonged fo the Crown), the rental under the new lease lo be 5 per cent of the present value of the land as in grass. Education Reserves. The board also dealt with matters relating to various Education Reserves. Authority lo expend the sum of £2Q in the clearing of gorso on Section 425, Poxton Suburb?, was decided to bo applied for. The engineer to the Kiatiwo County wrote asking permission fo take metal from Education liesorvo, Section 21, Block XII, Ilautapu. The ranger having reported that' it would destroy the frontage of the section lo form a gravel pit, it was resolved that the application cannot be entertained. Jlr. J:'. L. Behrcnt applied to surrender his lease of Education Reserve, Section 3, Block I, Mangaweka Township, as he has permanently left the district.—Declined. An application was received from certain Natives, including Messrs. Pitiera, Wainohu, and Jloko Patsna, to have Okahukura Block opened on , pastoral lease. Mr. John Fouhy having previously applied fo transfer to .Mr. Patrick Doherty his lease of Education Kcserve, Section 7S, Block XIII, Mangahao Education lieservo, now asked, with the concurrence of Mr. Doherty, permission to withdraw that application, and to transfer to Mr. Alfred John Jackson, who had furnished the usual certificate and undertaking.
