THE LATE MR. SANSON. ffiy Tfertob.-SDCcial CorrospomJcni.l Palmetston, Juno 29. Tho sudden death, yesterday afternoon, of Mr. John Sanson, cf Glen Oroua, ramo as a great shock , to many peoplo in. Palmcrston North who knew deceased. Air. Sanson had not been in the best of health for some time, but his sudden demise was not in the least anticipated. It appears/that several Palmorstori sportsmen hadgdtie out to Mr, Sanson's for a day's shooting, and Mr. Sanson, who had not been feeling well for tho" past' few days, "decided not li>'accompany the' party, but subsequently changed . Jus.; mind. After lunch, preparations were made to start, Mr. Sanson going to the washhouso to obtain tho cartridges, while the other members walked on. They had not proceeded far before they were called back by the- deceased's daughter, and found Mr. Sanson lying On tho floor. Sudden heart sei7,ure is assigned as tho cause. Mr. Sanson will bo greatly missed in the district. Ho took a leading part in everything of a public nature that was for tho welfart of tho people. Ho was chairman of tho School Committee for many years, was tho leading representative' of tho prohibition- party in the district, a director of tho Glen Orpui Dairy Co., and chairman of the Kongotea and district Chamber of Commerce. Recently he had been particularly busy with tlie scheme for the proposed swimming baths, and, on the very day of his death, ho.was engaged drawing out tho specifications r in connection with this work. Deceased,. who was 55 years of age, was born at Lower Hutt, and removed to Manawatu in the early days with his father—the late ■Mγ. Ilenry Sanson, one of tho original settlers of what is now tho Sandon township. After spending about 10 years there, ne took up land at Glen Oroua, where ho has resided for tho past 20 years. Ho leaves a. wifo and. family of live—two sons and three daughters. One daughter is Mrs. W. Martin, of Eongotoa, and the remainder of the family live at Glen Oroua, Deceased's mother, Mr?. Henry Sanson, lives at Clyde Quay, Wellington, and hia oldest brother, Mr. Henry Sanson, resides at Stratford, while tho youngest brother, Mr. Herbert Sanson, livos at Muritai, Wellington. Mrs. Burcham, of Halcombe, is also a sister. Tho inquest concerning tho death of the young man, Frederick Schlierike, who committed suicide yesterday, has been postponed till Monday. At a special meeting of the Kairanga County Council to-day tho rales for tho ensuing year were struck us follow:—One halfpenny in tho £ on tho unimproved value of all rateable property in Taonui riding; ono penny in the Mangaono riding; and one penny in tho I'iliherbort riding.
