CITY DESTRUCTOR.
EMPLOYEES' DEMANDS CONSIDERED. Reporting on a recent application by the General Labourers' Union, on behalf of tho corporation destructor employees,' for a new working agreement, the Finance Committee recommended the City Council yesterday that the following provisions be approved, but that no agreement, bo entered into:— '
"A week's work shall consist of six shifts of 8 hours per shift; a.m. shift, 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.; p.tn. shift, 3 p.m. to II p.m.; night shift, 11 p.m. to 7 n.m v provided that the first shift in tho week 6tavts at 7 a.m. on Monday. "The wages to be fixed at 10s. por shift nil round.
The following shall bo considered public, holidays for the destructor hands:—New Year's Day, Good Friday, Easter Monday, Labour Day, Boxing Day, and in addition thereto an animal holiday of 10 consecutive days, including Saturdays nud Sundays."
Tho above deals with tho first three clauses of tho agreement suggested by tho union. Sundry minor requirements included therein will Iμ) dealt with by the City Engineer. The committee also approves a recommendation of tho City Engineer that any man employed at the destructor as a fireman, feeling incapable of carrying out his work, is to bo permitted to exchange inlo some other labouring branch of the corporation service, and his place filled from the ranks of general labourers. Tho recommendations of tho committee were adopted by tho council without dis« cussion.
