"A DISCREDIT TO THE CORPORATION."
. o THE CITY STABLES. The following important report by the City Engineer upon the stables and yard at "the Corporation Depot iu Clyde Quay was adopted by tho City Council yesterday without comment. It was embodied in tho report of the Finance nnd l'ro•perty Committee:— "1 desirn to draw your attention to the fact that it is now urgently necessary that a new stable of modern typo be erected at the Corporation Yard, Clyde Quay, for tho accommodation of tho corporation horses. I'ho present stables are not satisfactory. They are not built in accordance with tho city by-laws, nnd aro a discredit to tho corporation. Iu fact, were these on private nrop'rty, a question of condemnation would lave to 1)0 considered by the owner. "I also desire to draw attention to tho totally inadequate building accommodation available for the fitters in conneclion with the Waterworks Department. The immense number of water fittings now tested for the various plumbers in Uio the city requires a considerable amount of space, in addition to which the overhaul of tho fittings and appliances in connection with tho corporation waterworks system has rendered the present place, as above slated, totally inadequate. "I feel that for the current year no money can bo made available for Iho erection of tho buildings, but I desire to draw (he attention of the council to their present condition, with n view, if possible, of making provision for the neces. sary work during the next financial year."
