DEATH OF GAOLER, WELLINGTON

MR. S. J. MItLINGTOX. Mr. Sydney George Millinglon, who has" been gaoler at the Teiracc Prison for the past, two years, ilioil, at his residence, at 9 o'clock yesterday morning, nt the ago of 59. Deceased hud suffered from an iutcrnal complaint for some months past, and was attended by Dr. Gilmer. In Hay last his condition became moro serious, ami be was compelled to tako to his bed. Born nt Teignmouth, Devonshire, the lato Mr. Milliiißlon came to New Zealand in 18C8, and, ton years ago, lie joined the Prison Service as assistant warder nt L.vitcHon, being promoted to the position of warder three years later. Iu liny, J.SS2, he was appointed principal warder at Mount Cook, and. in April, 1903, lie was raised to tho rank of Chief Warder at the Terrace. Mr. Millington succeeded Mr. O'Brien as gaoler at New Plymouth in August, 3000, and, in April, 1903, lie was'made manager of tho reformatory prihon in that town. On the retirement of Mi\ Armstrong in 1909, tho deceased was promoted to be- gaoler at Wellington. Ho is survived by a widow ami seven children—s sons ami 2 daughters.
