To-day the Acting-Prime Minister will be in Otago, tho Hon. R. M'Kenzie, Hie Hon. J. A. Millar, tho Hon. D. Buddo, and the Hon. A. T. Ngata in Wellington j the Hon. T. Mackenzie is in the Hawko's Bay district, and the Hon. G. Fowlds in the Taranaki district. Dr. Mackin, of Wellington, leaves on an extended tour of tho East on September 1. proceeding by way of Australia and the Dutch East Indies. Dr. Napier Maclean lias returned to town benefited by his sojourn in the mountain districts of the South Island, and has resinned the practice of his profession. . Dr. M'lCcnzie has gone to Kawhin, and will bo absent' about ten days. The death of Mr. J. T. We'ober, chief tolls clerk, who had been in the service of the Wellington Harbour Board for nearly thirty years, was mentioned at' Inst sight's sitting of that body. The chairman (Mr. K. Fletcher) stated that a letter of condolence expressing the board's regret' and appreciation of his long and faithful service had been sent to the widow and family. Mr. W. P. Barber, father of Mr. W. H. P. Barber, suffered a paralytic stroke on Monday, and now lies in a critical condition at his residence at Trenthaiu. Mr. Barber, who is 7G years of age, was a member of the Gsth Regiment, which saw active service in tho Maori War. Mr. W. H. L. Galwey, manager of tlie Bank of New South Wales at Masterton, has been promoted to a similar position at Napier. Before leaving Masterton Mr. Galwey was presented by the mayor, on behalf of the citizens, with several mementoes of esteem. Mr. Alfred Boothman, one of the oldestAustralian actors still in harness, arrived from Sydney by the Warrimoo psterday. iir. Edward Tregeai', late Secretary for Labour, returned from a visit to Australia by tho Warrimoo yesterday. Mr. D. Alabaster, wlio has been messenger at the Magistrate's Court for the past, eight years, has been appointed to succeed Mr. If. Gordon as chief bailiff at Wellington. On Monday evening a joint presentation was made to Messrs. Ernest Atkin and Stanley Hutledge, of The Dominion reading staff, on the occasion of severing their connection with the paper. Mr. Atkin received a handsome barometer, and Mr. Rutlcdge, who has joined the Permanent Artillery, a strong and serviceable travel-ling-bag. Mr. M. C. Keane, associateeditor," made tiie presentation on behalf of the stall', and felicitously expressed the general regret felt at losing two valued members, and wished them every success and happiness in their now spheres. Mr. C. Bentley Russell and Miss Irene Mason, members of t lie Mountebanks, left vesterdav morning for Masterton to assist in "Sweet Lavender" which the Masterlon amateurs are producing. Mr. J. G. llai'kness was congratulated by the chairman of the Harbour Board (Mr. It. Fletcher) last evening on his safe return from a visit' to England and his reelection to tin? board dming his absence. Mr. Jlnrkncis suitably replied. Mr. Laing-Meason, M.1.C.E., has gone to Napier on business connected with the rivers control question, and expects to return in a. week or ten days.
A Press Association message from Palmer.iton. stains that Mr .loll" Sanson, nil old and rtspodod resident of Glen Oronn, died suddenly yesterday, aged 50 years. Deceased was one of the founders of the township oj Sandoa.
