RATS-WAR DECLARED.
DEPARTMENT'S GENERAL LETTER
Last night, the Karori Borough Council received a copy of tho regulations of tho Health Department regarding measures to be taken to prevent or check the spcad of plague through rats. In an accompanying letter the acting-district health officer said:
"I recommend that immediate effect be given to these regulations, and every effort made Jtp,.,qarrv, thpni out in their entirety withm'tlie district under your control, special attention to bo given to grain stores, butchers' shops, restaurants, and other places where articles of food'aro kept, as well as private houses and places of business generally. For ordinary households, the use of their natural enemy, the cat . . . has been found a most effective aid in reducing the number of the rodents. Poisoning and trapping must bo practised on an extensive scale, and all rats so disposed 01 should be immediately buried, or, preferably, burnt/*
