Mr. Joseph Hammond, tU6 New Zenland aeronaut, is reported to be rapidly recovering after his recent operation for appendicitis.

The Rev U. J. Wcstbrooke, F.G.S. (Presbyterian) has resigned the Methven charge (Canterbury) owing to ill-health. —Press Association.

Mr. H. W. L. Digby, chief reporter of tho Christchurch "Pics?," passed through' this city yesterday on his way to Auckland.

Mr. Oliver Richard Prouso was yesterday admitted as a solicitor by Sir Joshua Williams, on tiie application of Mr. P. G. Putnam.

Joseph Mikulec, a Croatian (a naturalised subject of the United Stales), has arrived in New Plymouth. The statement regarding him in ono of the Taranaki papers may bo given for what it is worth. It states: "He is engaged in walking round tho world, and has many medals and documents from, various celebrities and bodies. He will finish his task in New York in 1914, expecting to have covered by that time GO,OOO miles. Mikulec says he will lift 25,000 dollars from a New York Nows agency and 50,000 crowns in Austria for his writings. He plans to examine the northern gumdiggers before he departs for other countries. Up to now no claims to havo walked 47,000 miles."

The Rev. P. R. Egerton died at his residence, Vale Mascal, Bexley, England, on April 28. Born on July 14, 1832, he played cricket for Winchester in 1849 and 1850, appearing in each year against Harrow and Eton. Mr. Egerton was a l'ellow of New College, Oxford, from 1851 until ISG3, and founder of All Saints' Schools, Bloxham, of which ho was principal from 1800 until 1837 and warden from tho latter date until 1800.

Mr. G. W. Robinson lias succeeded the late Mr. Webber as chief tolls clerk of the Wellington Harbour Board. Mr. Robinson, who has been in the employ of the board for about twenty years, has, for some time past occupied the position of senior tolls clerk. Mr. Alexander Ross and Mr. A. H. Wilson, both of tlunterville, nro at present on a visit, to Wellington.
