AT THE EXHIBITION.
TAKINGS TO DATE. WELL OVER 91,000 VISITORS. ' ' Yeslerday the turnstiles at the. Coronation New Zealand Exhibition showed that -i! 08 people had passed through, making a total of 91,752 attendances since the Exhibition was opened on May 21. The cash takings for the day amounted to .£O9 IGs. 3d. THE STADIUM. A NAVAL SPORTS NIGHT. Again last evening the men from his -Majesty's ships Cambrian arid Pioneer delighted a well-filled "house" .with 'a sports gathering on similar lines to those which they have taken part iii previously. The'arrangements .wens capably, carried out bv' Mr. Howe (boatswain nf H.M.S. Cambrian), C.P.O. Patcy, and A.B. Clements. "The part which the public'seemed'to appreciate most was the cbmie boxing'display, in. which Messrs. Griffiths and Webber took part. A contest between'Messrs.'Wren and Johnston (representing "Jack Johnson" and "Wellington Tr'acey—the last hope 'of tho white race'- , —respectively) caused roars of laughter. Messrs. Farrow and Davis also gave exhibition spars. A capital programme of events was aba held. Following arc the results':— Barrel race—Cotter and Ncvelr (Cambrian); 1." : Sp.rds. handicap—Farrow (Pioneer), 1; Cotter (Cambrian), 2. Quarter-mile race—Cotter (Cambrian), 1; Flemming (Cambrian), 2. Sack race—Dmiderdalo (Pioneer), 1; Colter (Cambrian), 2. ' Half-mile race—Pnllen (Pioneer), 1; Flemming.(Cambrian), 2. • Tug-of-War—Pioneer (Captain P. 0. Hughes), 1. Potato J'acn-Clark (Cambrian), 1; Golwortliy (Cambrian), 2. Obstacle race—Johnstone. Pioneer), 1; Pullen I'l'ioneer), 2. Boot race—Clark (Cambrian), 1; Pullen (Pioneer), 2--To-morrow evening, at the Stadium, there will be an exhibition of fancy lassoing, Mexican bowie-knife throwing, and sharp-shooting with seven different sorts of guns by Captain Wm. M'Cloud, late of Colonel Cody's Wild West Show.
COMMITTEE MEETS. SPECIAL EXCURSION' TRAIN'S. A meeting of tho Executive Committee of tho,Exhibition was held yesterday, when two resolutions were passed concerning the running of special trains for the benefit of country visitors desirous of visitiug the Exhibition. It was resolved: That, in view of tho importance to New Zealand manufacturers of the Exhibition, and the inactivity of tho Railway Department in facilitating cx- ■ Rursiou trips to Wellington, the Wellington Provincial Industrial Associa-. tion approach Hie Railway Department, with A view to chartering a trial train for ono day, the terms lo be agreed upon up to ii fair, profit to the Department above the working expenses. If satisfactory terms can be arranged, the first train will run from Palmenstc-n on Friday, July 7.
, The secretary was instructed to write to the general manager of tho New Zealand Railways pointing out that no reply had been received to the deputation which had waited on tho Minister for Railways on Tuesday, June (i, regarding tho running of excursion trains to Wellington. ' A letter is to be forwarded asking that excursion trains be run from. New Plymouth and Napier (via'Wairarapa) once a week.
During the discussion it was- pointed out that tho Railway Department ran excursions lo the Palmerston Show, and also intend runjiing them for the. convenience o£ country people wishing to hear the Sheffield Choir.
THE ENGLISH PIERROTS , The Exhibition Theatre was well filled last evening, when the English Pierrots again delighted their audience with an excellent entertainment.' -That humorous sketch, "The Young Woman at Home, or the Old Man Out," introduced by Mr. Maynard Dakin, is very amusing, and created roars of laughter. Miss Philipson was very successful in her songs, and was encored. The concert commences, at 8.30 o'clock each evening.
