Now Zealand kicked off before h crowd of fifty thousand, and immediately pressed, Francis heading a dribbling-rush on the New South Wales'.goal. The New Zealand forwards thus started well, but were soon outclassed by their smaller and more skilful opponents. From scraggy play in the New South Wales' twenty-five, Messenger centred to Frawley, and the, latler got away and scored. Messenger added the other point?. Ashor, with a brilliant run, started a good rush, but Francis was downed on the line. The New South Wales forwards worked back from the ruck, and Noble fell across. Messenger failed with the kick. Shortly after Messenger landed a beautiful free-kick over the bar from haif-way. From this until half-time the local backs ■took possession, Messenger, Frawley, and Broonihaui each scoring a try. Francis kicked a penalty goal for New Zealand. At half-time, the Mores were:—New South Wales, 19 points; New Zealand, 2 points. From tho kick-off in the second spell Morse passed to Francis, who fell across, lint failed at goal. New South Wales, 19 points; New Zealand, 5 points. From the kick-out in the second spell twenty-five, Woodward kicked a penally goal. New South Wales, 21 points; New Zealand, 7 points. Messenger, from a passing-rush, scored, but Frawley failed at goal. The New Zetland forwards, headed_by Francis, transferred play to the T%cw South Wales' twenty-five, where Woodward dodged across," but failed at goal. The Now South Wales forwards were playing the better game.in every department, and presently M'Kivalt and Cann scored a try each," Messenger con the two.
