IIONTHLY MEETING. Tho Victoria ColleßC Council met on Wednesday night, l'resent: Jlcssrs. C. Wilson (ennirma'n), -T. Graham, 51.1'., H. D. Bell, K.C., J. a. \\. Aitken, H. F. von Hantf, T. U. i'letnins, A. «. -Meek, J!. M'Nab, and Dr. C. l>. Knighf; Leave of absence was granted to hir .Robert Stout and M'Callum, Watson, Jlaginnity, and Ostler. Accounts amounting to XOir. .Is. lfld. were passed for payment, leaving a bank balance of .£lllß Us. Bd., in addition to JCISOO on deposit. On the recommendation of the Finance Committee, it was decided that when the professors make up lifts cf■ books to be ordered for the library, they be asked to classify them according to urgency and that the book-sellers he asked to execute the orders accordingly up to a certain sum of money. The award of a Jacob Joseph Scholarship to Mr. H. U. livans was recommended by the Finance Committee. Mr. Evans was third in order of merit among those eligible. There are usually two of these scholarships awarded annually, but only one was awarded last year, and the committee therefore (in terms of a resolution passed last year) proposed to award a third on the present occasion. Dr. Knight, moved: "That a third scholarship lie only granted in cases of exceptional merit and that such be not granted this year for the reason only second-class honours have been obtained."
This lapsed for want of a seconder and the recommendation wr.s adopted. Adopting a recommendation of (he Profestor of Chemistry, thn council decided to allow the Pharmacy Board of Neir Zealand to use the'chemical-labora-tory for its practical exaoiinalion for one afternoon twice a yrr-.r, a charge of 7?. Gd per candidate being marie to piy for Hst> of chemicals and apparatus.

Consideration of Sir Robert Stout's motion, "That the lof.l'tirer on odncition 1)3 made a professor," was postponed.
