' "♦: ■ ATTENDANCE STILL GOOD, MILITARY NIGHT AT THE STADIUM. The Exhibition turnstiles yesterday ■ recorded an attendance of 2213, making the aggregate attendance sinco the opening day 73,141. The cash takings amounted to £65 6s. ' Tho military sports at the Stadium last evening attracted a largo and highly-in-terested gathering of spectators. Tho programme included a display by tho machine-gun section of tho fifth "Wellington Rifles, under Lieutenant Simeon. Tho greater part of the evening, however, was occupied in deciding the merits of tho contesting teams in. tho tug-o'-war tournament. Some strenuous . and willing pulls wero made. Eight teams entered, the Heretaunga Mounted Rifles winning the final by pulling tho No. 3 Company G.A. Terrritorials, on- the time limit, having pulled then about twelve inches after a big fight. The team was:—SergtMajor Dement (captain), Farrier-Sergt. M. C. Williams, Sergt. Bull, Scrgt. Rogers, Corpl. Hambling, Tpr. Jl'Gregor, Tpr. Nattrass, Tpr. Batterson, Tpr. Hayes. Tho results of tho other pulls wero as follow:—No. 3 Company, G.A.V., beat H.M.S. Cambrian; B Company beat E Company (Fifth Regiment); A Squadron (Sixth Regiment M.R.) beat No. 4 Company New Zealand Engineers; H.M.S.. Pioneer beat C Company (Fifth Regiment). • • In the semi-finals, No. 3 Company, G.A.V., beat B Company; A Squadron beat H.M.S. Pioneer. THE ENGLISH PIERROTS. , Good attendances are a regular feature of the delightful entertainments which are being given each evening by,the English Pierrots at the Coronation Theatre. The.popular "Why-Isita" quartet is en'joying a great run, while the remainder of the programme is of a high standard. The continuous'picture show,,under .the auspices of the Pierrots, is being accorded its due share of public patronage. ...COMING ATTRACTIONS. The Exhibition Sports Committee held a meeting last evening to discuss various matters relating to coming attractions at tho Stadium. The most important decision arrived at was the settlement of preliminary arrangements for a .£2O wrestling contest, Jls;for the first man, and' £o for the second. It is qjiite likely that the hopes of the committee that Robertson (champion of New Zealand) and Gardiner—both light-weights-may accept on ■ engagement"- 'tjotnieet at the Stadium, will' be. ■■/ . ' Entries for the tonrnament close on June 27. Arrangements have been made for bowliug, and tennis matches to be played next week. The lights in the Stadium have been raised, to the advantage of the players, particularly the tennis players. NAVAL DISPLAY... To-night's programme at the Stadium should furnish.'one of,'-the /best: evening's entertainments yet held at;the,Exhibition. A naval display by 'detachments from H.M.S. Camttriaii and'H.Jr.S: Pioneer has been arranged, the sports items including a tug-o'-war, obstacle races, ■ and a comic scene, "The Last Hope of tho White Race" —a skit on -the boxing championship of the world. :■■■'■■ BRIDGE-BUILDING. Some excellent work was done by two troops of boy scouts at tho Exhibition last evening. The Petone and Kilbimie troops participated in the "Military Night" at the Stadium, and their bridgc-buildmg excited the heartiest admiration: from the audience... . . , ■ ...
