ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.

A NARROW ESCAPE INDEED. A man named John M'Arthur had a narrow escape on Saturday morning while working on the additions to the General Post Office. He was engaged in taking two bars of iron, weighing about 150 pounds, to the top of the building. The bars were being hoisted in a sling, by means of a crane. It was part of his duty to go up with the sling. On this occasion tho load caught at the third floor of tho building. The crane was stopped, arid he got off in order to clear the iron. As he was landing, the slingrope broke, and one of the iron bars, striking him, knocked him down, so that he fell a distance of about thirty feet. Ho landed on his right shoulder, and the right side of his face. Dr. Gilmer, who was summoned by the contractors (Messrs. J. and A. Wilson), by whom'the injured man was employed, found' that the latter Was suffering from a hurt to.his shoulder, some bad cuts on tho face and head, and various bruises. . He was at once removed to the Hospital, where he is reported 'to be doing as well as can be expected. Ho is a.single man, 40 years of age, who resides at No. 1 Walter Street.

UNFORTUNATE EXPERIENCE. ' 111-fortune splrlom comes singly. A man named — Bramley, who bad just been discharged from tho Hospital as aired, was being taken to his home, in Tinakori Road, at two o'clock yesterday afternoon in a cab, when the horse took alarm at something and bolted. Bramley was .tumbled out. Although no bones were broken, he was severely shaken, and had to be taken back forthwith to the Hospital, whence he had just been discharged. It is thought likely that he may be in a condition to be discharged again in a fendays. TAXICAB AND A GIRL. A girl named Thompson, 15 years of age, was the victim of an accident which occurred in Adelaide Road on Saturday 'at 1.15 p-m. She attempted to cross the road as two taxicahs approached. She safely avoided the first, but stepped right in front of the second. Tho splash-board oE tho car struck her and knocked her down. She was not severely hurt, and escaped with a shaking and a fWght. The police report upon the accident tUtes that when it occurred the car was going slowly, and upon its right side of the road.
