POULTRY, PIGEONS, AND CANARIES. WELLINGTON" SOCIETY'S EXHIBITION. The twenty-ninth annual exhibition oi the Wellington Poultry, Pigeon, oud Collar,y Society was opened yesterday afternoon without formal pomp and circumstance, and will be continued to-day and to-morrow. The show is considered to be the best yet lie-Id by the society, the canaries being a special feature. Altogether there are 521 entries for all classes, and '210 of this number belong to the canary class. The judges vera: Messrs. T. Boig (poultry), I!. C. Gavdinei (fancy pigeons), AV. Bailey (working homers), and T. 11. Jones (canaries), awards in the various classes being as follow :— POULTRY. The poultry exhibits generally were cf a, good standard. The Plymouth' reeks were very good, quite the best yet shown in Wellington, while a very good finality was noted in the wyaudotte pens. The leghorns were moderate only, largely nwin-g to the fact that some of the exhibitors were late with their entries. In tha banian, classas, the black _ rosecomhs especially were noticed for their high quality, following were the awards in tho poultry classes:— English Game. Mr. J. May, thj sole exhibitor in the Old English game class, was awarded four first prizes for his black red cock and hen, duekwing cock, and pile (red) cockerel. In the modern game class, Jlr. J. Murphy secured first prize for his black red cock, a first and special for his black red hen, first and second for his black red cockerel, and first for black red pullet and duekwing hen. Mr. John Boyle was the sole exhibitor in the duck-wing cock class, securing a first and second. Mr. A. M'Millan was the only exhibitor in the modern game bantam cla;-s, securing the following award?Duekwing cock, lj duekwing hens, 1, 2, and special; pile hen, I. Tho entries for the pigeon classes are very good, except in the homer varieties, which the judge considered to be poor. Thi= he attributed to the fact (hat insufficient inducements were offered to breeders to prepare birds for show purposes—there were no special prizes, far example.
