NELSON CASES. (By Telecraph.— Press Association.! Nelson, Juno 11. At the Supremo Court, in tlio action Richardson v. tho Nelson "Evening Mail," n claim for .£300(1 damages for alleged libel, the jury returned a verdict for the defendants. Plaintiff's counscl intimated Ms intention of moving to sot the verdict aside. The cn&o of Eißo N. Richardson, widow, v. C. .T. Harlev, solicitor, a claim for .£3OOO for alleged slander, arose under tHe same circumstances as tlie former action. Mrs. Kichardson was defendant in an action brought by the aitnoa County Council in the S.M. Court for encroach-, ing on a public road. Mr. liarloy appeared for tlio council, and, during the case, the Crown grant of Mrs. Kidiavdson's property was put in containing (i plan. Mr. Hatfoy inspected the exhibit, UTid made a vs'.iark to the ?ncct that it had been altered since he had last seen it, the reply suggesting that the plaintiff iu the present action had tampered with tlie document. The Registrar of Deeds at the magistrates request, compared the grant with the copy in his possession and pronounced that no alteration had been made. The magistrate thereupon said tlio statement should be withdrawn, which, however, Mr. ITnrlcy did not do, and Mrs. Bichardson proceeded for alleged slander.
