(liy Telegraph.—Pres3 Association.! « CHARY OF THE GOVERNMENT. A FARM EXPERIMENT MATTER. Christchurch, Juno 13. At .a meeting of the Board of Governors'of, Lincoln College to-day, the agitation for the installation of a Government experiment, farm in the South Island wua commented upon, and the majority or ut board seemed to bo of opinion that- it would be inadvisable to accept a grant of money from the Government to enable extensive experiment work to be carried out on the eolleio farm, unless it was absolutely clear that the Government would not attempt to interfere in any way with the carrying out of experiments. It was pointer! out that a remit was going to the Agricultural Conference from the .South Island asking that an experiment station should bo established here, but the board were against giving the movers of the remit any grounds for saying that the college would take up the work in event of the Government's refusal to do so. The whole question was then deferred until a later date. "A PARODY OF A COURT." Wanganui, June 13. Owing to the Supremo Court being in session this morning, the Magistrate's Court had to be conducted in a small room at the rear of the court offices. This lias been the cause of frequent objection, and an indignant protest was entered by members of the local Bar at the failure of the- Justice Department to provide sufficient accommodation. Mr. Cohen, who introduced the subject, said it was scandalous that justico should havo to be administered in "a parody of a court." It was decided to press the matter on the Department, to whom frequent representations have been made, and whom the Borough Council has offered to assist. FOR ALLEGED LIBEL. Nelson,. June 13. Mr. Justice Chapman and. a jury were occupied all day with the hearing of. an action in which Mrs. Effie N. Richardson, a widow, claimed ,£3OOO damages from the proprietors of the Nelson "Evening Mail" for libel alleged to be contained in the report of a law-suit between plaintiff and the Waimea County Council in the Magistrate's Court, in which the former was charged with encroaching on tho road line in fencing her property in Maitai Valley. Mr. E. G. Jellicoe appears for tlio plaintiff, and Mr. A. L. Herduian for tho defendants. FEILDING AND CORONATION DAY. Feilding, June 13. The local committee of tho Borough Council and townspeople liavo arranged for the Coronation ceremony programme to include the usual fainting of the flag by tho territorials, a united religious service, tho singing of the National Anthem, and the school children to bo provided with" a free picture show and refreshments. At . the Feilding District High School an Imperial pageant is being arrauged, in which the whole of the children will take part. SUPREME COURT. . . Wanganui, June 13. At the Supremo Court yesterday a divorce decree was granted in the case Allan v. Allan and Tairei. The husband and wife were half-castes, and tho corespondent a Maori. Damages to the extent of XGO were also awarded. In the case Rex v. Michael Flynn, aged 59, the jury returned a verdict of guilty of assault on a child three years old. The first jury disagreed, and the second was out three and a half-hours. ; Prisoner, who was undefended, pleaded drunkenness in extenuation. He was sentenced to three years' imprisonment. A CORONATION MEMORIAL. Christchurch, Juno 13. At a general meeting of the Coronation. Celebration"Commifcbeo ■ to-night,. it wasdecided that tho memorial should tako the form of a home for: incurable;.consumptives, this course having been very strongly urged by a. committee from tho Hospital and Charitable Aid Boards A sum of £192 was subscribed in the room towards the memorial. AUCKLAND EXHIBITION. Auckland, June 13. A meeting of the Citizens' Committee set up to consider the advisability of holding an International Exhibition in Auckland at the end of next year, was held to-day. The meeting decided in favour of an Industrial Exhibition as being less ambitious and costly. It was further decided not to hold the said Exhibition till 1913. DIVORCE CASES. Dunedin, Juno 13. Mr. Justice Williams granted rules nisi this morning in the divorce carts Burrows v. Burrows, husband's petition on the ground of desertion, and C'onroy v. Conroy and Patterson, misconduct. KAIKORAI BAND. Dunedin, Juno 13. Tho ICaikorai Band unanimously decided to take part in the North Island contest at Gisborno next February, provided an outside judge is appointed. ALLEGED EMBEZZLEMENT. Christchurch, Juno 1». Alex. W. Ironsides, charged with the embezzlement of .£7OO, the property of the Public Trustee, was remanded till June 21 on bail, himself in ,£2OO and two sureties of .2100 each. FOR FORTY MILES OF STREETS. Christchurch, June 13. The City Council last night decided by a bare majority to send the Mayor's road scheme to tho ratepayers for approval. The scheme involves a loan of one hundred thousand pounds for the reconstruction of forty miles of streets. NEW MUNICIPAL BUILDINGS. Timaru, June 13. Tho Borough Council last night, dccided (o proceed with tho erection of new municipal buildings adjoining and in keeping with the public library. CORONATION MEMORIAL. Timaru, June. 13. The Borough Council has decidcd to vote up to .iSO towards the cost of a band rotunda in the park (making three in. Timaru) as a Coronation memorial. This idea originated with the Rugby Union, who will devoto the total gates of special matches on Thursday to the fund. BRIEF MENTION. Christchurch, June 13. The bad woalher appeared to havo broken this morning, but it set in again before noon. Christchurch, .Tune 13.
