KELBURNE-KARORI TRAMWAY SCHEME.
Sir,—l wish, through the medium of your paper, to draw the attention of Karori and Northland ratepayers to the position that is evolving in reference to a proposed tramway across Kelburne. Interest in public affairs iu Karori has declined so that the last council was only filled by the nominations. The council has a majority in favour of commuting Karori to the cost of an opposition tramline. This majority is mainly composed of syndicators. (or their . representatives) who have made it' appear to tho Wellington Council that Karori is anxious to have a line across Kelburne. So anxious thai thev crave leave to finance it or guarantee it! Karori has suffered sufficiently in the past through, the over-activity of land syndicates in its public offices, and it behoves all those wno wish to oppose this scheme being carried through to get moving at once. Arc the Northland ratepayers going to sit still and see traffic diverted from a line in which they are partners, and for loss on which they will bo rated? Tho. insistence,, of vested interest has secured so much that ?. report on the scheme, a 9 guaranteed by Karori, comes before the City Council's next meeting, and it is believed that a majority of the city councillors will support it. From their point of view there seems no reason ivhv they should not. Trusting some more able pen will take tho matter up,—l am, etc., KARORI-ITE.
