A GEORGIAN REVIVAL.

With the accession of another George to the throne of England there is .a revival of the picturesque, dainty furniture Df the Georgian period. The influence is making itself felt throughout the honies of 'England. Victorian and the subsequent "hybrid" styles of house decoration and furniture are, it is 'stated, being very largely replaced by the iashions of the early Georges. A London furnishing expert told an English newspaper that the number of people who were having their houses refurnished and re-decorated in. pure Georgian styles was remarkable. !"l''or years past, of courss, Georgian styles have been more or less popular," ho said. "The accession of King George, however, has given an extraordinary fillip to the styles named after his Majesty's predecessors, '"i'lio great majority of the good decorating firms are just now exceedingly busy transforming the interiors •of West End homes from, various hybrid styles into Georgian. : "With the decoration of rooms this consists in the walls being of a pure white, pale green, of ; pale, wedgwood blue embossed , . with various classic designs. Bright,'plain rod carpets are often used as a setting- to the light-coloured walls. "The influence of the period, however, affects almost everything in the home. Just now Georgian style dinner: .services, Georgian style L-eds, ornaments, and even the heavy mahogany doors of those times, are becoming exceedingly popular in English homes. In the place of the once popular, heavy, somewhat clumsy Victorian furniture, stuffed with horsehair, one sees everywhere the lighter, daintier furniture.of the Georges. "Even in gardens the accession of another King George is having its influence. Many people are now having the gardens" of their country homes laid out in the Italian and French styles so popular during the reign of . the Georges.- Even in umbrellas and walking-sticks there has been a remarkable revival in Georgian customs. "A well-known firm of walking-stick makers in Piccadilly have, just now a large stock of amber-headed gold-mount-ed Georgian sticks, which are selling like hot cakes in dozens. "■Ylso I have noticed men walking in the West End with the large black tassels on their umbrellas a striking revival of eighteenth century customs. "Wearing a tassel on one's walking-stick may he revived if the craze in Georgian things—due to the accession of King George—is continued."
