LACROSSE.
KELBURNE (9) V. COLUMBIA (2). This game was played at Duppa Strcetj and, although the score would indicate that the game was onesided, such was not the case, the winning team having had to put up a very stubborn fight during the first three-quarters. Vcrscaffeldt (cover-point) was absent from tho Columbia team, a fact which no doubt accounts to some extent for the largo number of goals scored by Kelburne. At half-time the score stood—Kelburne, 3 goals; Columbia, 1. In tho third quarter Kelburne added two more goals and. Columbia one. Tho final quarter faw Kelburno in tho ascendant and Columbia falling away, the Blues using their sticks with more certainty than the Blacks, and driving homo every advantage. Some excellent passing was to be seen from both teams, and this match was splendid evidence of the rapid strides lacrosse is rnakinpr in Wellington. Mr. Anderson controlled tho gaino in his usually efficient manner. '. . .
CAPITOL (12) V. WELLINGTON (1). Tho Basin Reserve was in good condi lion on ■ Saturday, and tho above match' provided, in its early stages, a very interesting struggle. , " 'Wellington.-appeared lo lie set on victory from ..tho. outset, and Ihero is no ilouTbt that they put up their best performanen for the present season, Capitol scored first, after attacking for ten minutes, and then was seen a fine pieco of concerted play on Wellington's part. Bowen-(goal) received from .vshot by Hubbard, and passed to Ryder, who transferredv.'to iDavLs... Prom Davis (lie ball passed to Carver, and then to Ponlington, who, haying seen•.. of a score, had':'|oTlowed i'tip the" play, This player, by tricky dodging and feinfcing, wended his way through the opposing defence, and scored n well-merited goal by upsetting tho. calculations of Goalkeeper Montgomery.- 1 ThiS was the most sensational incident of the match,, and it can be easily understood that tho. Capitol' men believed themselves in for a hard and strenuous struggle. Subsequent events did not warrant that belief, for tho Green team were always on top after Wellington's only, score. The losers, speaking generally, did not appear to bo j in sufficiently good training to' see through a hard game. Mr. Murray.) gave satisfaction as referee. REPRESENTATIVES SELECTED. Mr. A. C. Jatilke has selected tho following team to represent Wellington in its match against Auckland, to be playtd at tho Basin Reserve on Coronation .Day:-' Goal, Eeg; point, Moran; cover-pniut, O'.Leary; third man. Meyer; centre, Renkin; third home, Ryder; second homo, Montgomery; first home, Grant; defence wings, King and Jordan; attack wings, ' Fama and Leydon. Emergencies: Dofence, Proud and Bowen; attack, Hutton and Loughnau. The above tram will play tho next host' "fourteen" nt tho Basin Reserve on Saturday next. The names of the "fourteen" will be announced in the course of a dajr. or two. The team chosen by Mr. .Tantko is thestrongest that could havo l)een selected, and should put up a very strong gamo against Auckland. Defensively, it is very sound, whilst its attack includes ronio of tho best "stick" men who havo played the game in Now Zealand. 1
