WATERSIDE WORK.
HOURS AND AVAGES. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) Invercargill, June 8. Mr J R Triggs, Conciliation Commissioner, to-day presided at a conference between the Bluff waterside workers and employers, who arrived at an amicable agreement, the principal features of which wore -.-Wages: Handling general cargo, Is. '2d. per hour 2s. per hour overtime; guano or superphosphates, in bulk, .sulphur in mats or bags.' Is. 6(1. and •>s 3d ; coke in bulk, Is. 'Id. and 25.. Id.; shovelling ballast, Is. 3d. and 25.; coal, Is 6d and 2s. 6d.; trimming coal in bunkers on all steamers, 2s. and 2s. 6d.; carrying coal, ?.s. and 35.; overhauling working on ships, Is. 3d. and 25.; handling frozen produce, Is. 3d. and 25.; in freezing chamber, Is. 6d. and 2s. Sd.; night watchman, 103. per shift. Men are to bo paid for half hour when they work fifteen minutes, no payment for any time, less than that. The men also earn payment when ordered down to begin work and not put on between 7 a.m. and 9 p.m., one hour, and between j) p.m. and 7 a.m., two hours; double time to lie paid on Sundays, Christmas Day, and Good Friday j " and overtime rates on Now Year's Day, Bluff regatta day, Easter Monday, Sovereign's Birthday, Labour Day, and Boxing Day. The agreement, which is for three years, will come into force on July 1.
