To-day tho Hen. J. Carroll, tho Hon. G. Fowlds, the Hon. A. T. Ngata, tho Hon. J. A. Millar will ,bo in Wellington, the lion. K. Sl'Keiizio in Canterbury, the Hon. T. Mackenzie in Otago, and the Hon. D. Buddo in Taranaki. The Hon. Geo. Fowlds is to open the new ward at the Christchurch Hospital on June 15. Little change is reported in the condition of the Mayor (Mr. T. M. Wilford), who is at present bid up with nn attack of appendicitis. Sir. St. Clair Jounneaux, of Te Slatai, Palmerston North, is at present lnid up in the hospital, slowly recovering from nn operation. Sir. E. P. O'Donnell, who was for five ■ gears'- "examiner-1 at' the .Government Pateiit : Officp, received intimation yesterday that ho has passed the examination in Patent Law and Practice, prescribed by law for patent agents. Sir. O'Donnsll' has entered into partnership with Sir. S. H. Higgs, of Grey Street, Wellington, with whom ho was formerly associated in. parent work. On severing his connection with the Department, Mr. O'Donnell was presented by tho Registrar with a valuable souvenir. The following changes in the Post and Telegraph Department are announced :— Mr. ]{. M. Baird, assistant telegraph engineer, Wellington, to ba telegraph en-gineer,-Auckland, in place of Sir. W. S. Furby, retired. ,Slr. E. A. Shrimptoii, assistant telegraph engineer, Auckland, to be telegraph engineer, Wellington, in place of Mr. Ct. C. Bobertson, deceased. Sir. E. P. Cowlos, • sub-telegraph engineer, Wellington, to bo sub-telegraph engineer, Auckland. Sir. B. W. G. Lye, clerk, telegraph engineer's office, JJelson, to be sub-telegraph engineer, Nelson. Sir. R. D. Yeitch, clerk, telegraph engineer's office, Dunodin, to be sub-tele-graph engineer, Dunedin. Sir. G. Apper]y, telegraphist, Wellington, has resigned from the Post and Telegraph Department in order to take up a position as wireless operator under the Fijian Government. Tho, Rev. J. Vosper, of Motucka, is oil a visit to Wellington, and is staying with his daughter, Sirs. Willis, at Kelbmno Avenue. Tho Rev. Father Herbert, of the Thorndon parish, has been transferred to Nelson. Srr. W. W. Naughton, of Sau Francisco, and president' of tho San Francisco Press Club, left Auckland on Saturday by the Aorangi for 'Frisco. "He on threo occasions carried off a wounded comrade under fearful fire," is the terse description of the deeds which luivo earned for Sir. 11. W. Northcroft the decoration of a New Zealand Cross. A recognition of Mr. Northcroft's bravo acts took place at the large Territorial parade at the outer Domain at Auckland on Saturday, when the Cross was pinned on his breast by Lord Islington. His Excellency said he had very great pleasure in presenting Sir. Nort'licroft with tho Now Zealand Cross which Sir. Northcroft had earned by distinguished and gallant conduct in tho Maori war. After pinning tho Cross on Sir. Northcroft s breast, Lord Islington took the wearer by the hand, and .expressed the hone that many years might bo spared to, him to enjoy the distinction so gallantly earned. Cheers wero given for Mr. Nortlicrott, and on his return to the saluting base ho was introduced to Lady Islington, who Bhook hands and complimented him on his irallantrr. Sir. Northcroft \os under tiro on 30 occasions, and performed many acts of bravery. He was awarded the New Zealand war medal in ISOb.
